January 2019

Congratulations to our January 2019 #afftonstrong Students! They include:

Meet Noor A., Gotsch Intermediate School third-grader and #afftonstrong Student. From her teacher: Noor comes to school every day and works super hard. She's an extremely bright girl. But more importantly, she has integrity. Noor does the right thing all the time, even if no one is watching. She is kind to every single student in my classroom. Noor is a role model for all the other kids in my class. She helps others academically and socially on a daily basis.

Meet Gwen C., Mesnier Primary School first-grader and #afftonstrong Student. From her teacher: Gwen enters our classroom each morning with a bright smile and positive attitude. From the start of our day to the end, I can count on Gwen to give her best and full effort in everything she does. She truly wants to learn and be the best student she can be. She is known for her bright, exuberant spirit that can shine a light into any learning environment. Academic Excellence is achieved when a student is positive, willing to do their best, and when a student opens their arms to learning. I am incredibly proud of Gwen and the growth she has made this school year towards academic excellence.

Meet Jazmyne F., Rogers Middle School - Affton eighth-grader and #afftonstrong Student. From one of her teachers: Jazmyne is always polite in class, and to her peers. She works very hard in Spanish class, and has really started to shine. When everyone was freaking out about their upcoming Semester 1 final, she took all the vocabulary from all the Quizlets, and combined them into one to share with her class. She wanted to help them with their final, and chose to do this on her own. She always sets a good example for her peers, and is quick to help a struggling student when we practice conversation in class. Her notes are incredibly organized, and when she's absent, she advocates by making sure she gets herself caught up right away. I love having her in class, and can't say enough nice things about this quiet young lady who is easy to look over because she isn't the loudest person in the halls or class. However, she is a bright shining star who embodies our core values.

Meet Zachary K., Mesnier Primary School first-grader and #afftonstrong Student. From his teachers: Zach is a hard working student who tries his best every day. He is highly motivated and is proud of his success. In class, Zach is always curious and engaged in his learning. Zach is also a great friend. He is kind to peers and enjoys helping others. Zach is a positive role model in the classroom and deserves to be recognized for his determination and positive attitude.

Meet Kailey K., Affton High School senior and #afftonstrong Student. From one of her teachers: Kailey is the most dependable, hard working student I have. She does everything that is expected of her and more. She is a pleasure to have as a student and as a cadet.

Meet Lincoln K., Rogers Middle School - Affton sixth-grader and #afftonstrong Student. From one of his teachers: Lincoln is an amazing young man that exemplifies Affton's Core Values every single day.  Lincon can
be found going out of his way to help others, building relationships with his peers and teachers and always putting forth this best effort.  Lincoln is part of the Best Buddies program at RMS.  Lincoln strives to include everyone in our classroom community.  Within Best Buddies, Linc has formed relationships with students with special needs.  He can be found with a smile, showing compassion, while interacting with these students!  We can count on Linc every single day to set an example for his peers by having a kind, giving heart and including everyone!  We are so proud of him for standing up for what he knows is right and being a leader at RMS!

Meet Layla S., Affton High School freshman and #afftonstrong Student. From one of her basketball coaches: Layla is such a joy to be around. She is such a hard worker and she is always looking for ways to improve herself, on and off the court. I've known her for two years and she has consistently been joyful, thoughtful, kind, and ambitious. She accepts criticism and uses it to improve her work. She strives for excellence at all times. Whether she's on the bench or on the court, she is always putting her team first, and I know I can count on her to lift up the team's spirits. She always puts a smile on my face and makes my day immediately better. I consider it a privilege to have been her teacher and now to be her coach.
