Portrait of a Graduate

We're so excited to introduce Affton School District's Portrait of a Graduate! Designed by a team of teachers, parents, alumni, students, and community members over the course of several months during the 2022-23 school year, this will be our guiding light to ensure each student leaves our schools ready for their future.

Locally developed but globally positioned, Affton's Portrait of a Graduate consists of six key attributes that our graduates work towards in order to have a successful, fulfilling future. Each of these skills is necessary to thrive in the ever-changing world, not just to keep up but to take the lead. And it’s through our curriculum, conversations, actions, and interactions that we can unlock the full potential of our graduates. #afftonstrong

Affton School District Portrait of a Graduate

What’s the difference between Affton School District’s Core Values and our new Portrait of a Graduate?

Core Values versus Portrait of a Graduate

  • Our Core Values embody who we are and why we are here. They are the principles that guide our decisions and define our organization. These are the ideals we stand up for and strive to live up to. We hold ourselves to these standards as an educational institution, as a community, and as individual stakeholders.

  • Our Portrait of a Graduate represents a detailed, future-oriented vision that outlines the specific knowledge, skills, and mindsets that we aim to cultivate in our students as an intentional outcome of their journey through Affton Schools. It is a blueprint rooted in our community’s vision for our students and defines what attributes and competencies students are expected to acquire and the steps they’ll take to gain them on the path to graduation.

Together, these living documents represent both what Affton stands for today and what we aspire to be in the future as a collaborative and responsive educational community.
