Marilyn Allen Nationally Recognized as PLTW Outstanding Administrator

Marilyn Allen, Affton School District Director of College & Career Readiness, is one of only 16 administrators across the U.S. to earn the 2021-22 PLTW Outstanding Administrator of the Year award, which recognizes outstanding education leaders that have come up with innovative ways to engage not only students, but also families during this challenging time.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW)  is honoring Mrs. Allen for her work in implementing this innovative STEM program district-wide. PLTW empowers students to develop in-demand, transportable knowledge and skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

“Affton School District is proud of Marilyn Allen and her dedication to our students,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “Marilyn's work to bring project-based STEM learning to all students in grades Pre-K through 12 is inspiring.”

Mrs. Allen was named the state’s Outstanding Administrator by the Missouri Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program in 2017, and has been instrumental in launching and expanding PLTW in all Affton schools.

“Educational leaders perform one of the most critical functions in our society, and we are proud to work with these outstanding educators who are leaders in their school districts and across the PLTW network,” said Dr. Vince Bertram, PLTW President and CEO. “Congratulations and thank you for your partnership in a shared commitment to empower our students to thrive in our evolving world even amidst the most challenging and unprecedented of times.”

Affton School District was recently recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for helping students unlock their potential and preparing them to thrive in life beyond the classroom. We are one of just 17 districts across the U.S. and the only district in Missouri to receive this honor for the third time.

In addition, all four of our K-12 schools - Mesnier Primary School, Gotsch Intermediate School, Rogers Middle School, and Affton High School - have also been recognized as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools.
